Success Story: Systems Development Life Cycle

Challenge:
— A Utility CIO realized that the strategic value of his IT group depended on how closely aligned IT was to their corporate objectives; and their ability to deliver cost effective, high quality applications on time. Focus concentrated on improving their SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle), and he viewed QA Consultants’ Testing Center of Excellence approach as the best way to validate and improve their processes as well as organizational strengths and areas for improvement.
Results:
— Current State Process Diagnostic : review methodologies, key findings and developed a high level Roadmap on areas for improvement (short term Quick Fixes) and (long term ROI-based).
— Project Prioritization - A rigorous approval, monitoring and execution of projects was established through IT HR Management, IT Strategy Refinement and Articulation, Resource Deployment, Project Management, and Security and Contingency projects. Of the 12 findings; agreed on Top 3 that have the most value which will be used as benchmark for the others.
— Thirty-five plus interviews with various personnel from across the enterprise including managers and staff from IT, the Project Management Department, and End-users.
— Exec IT Satisfaction ScoreCard to key Business Executives highlighting their perception and priorities for the value of the IT organization conducted via workshop with key stakeholders.
— Process Improvement for SDLC - Schematic Analysis of their current Software Development Life Cycle showed their lifecycle was evolving, but was not well adopted and not governed for compliance. Application Development Methodology, Configuration Management, Change Management, End User Focus, Information Management, and Service Management projects
